The City of Terrell, Texas, is preparing to lay to rest Officer Jacob Candanoza, who was tragically shot and killed during a routine traffic stop last Sunday. In observance of his funeral, set for today at 10 a.m., the City of Terrell Municipal Court and the Animal Control and Adoption Center will be closed. The funeral services for the fallen officer will be held at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall, as reported by WFAA.
As a former Marine and a recent addition to the Terrell Police Department, Candanoza's death has rocked the local community, with a large turnout expected at the services. In a display of solidarity and support, a fundraiser is scheduled for tonight at Mariachi Mexican Bar & Grill in Terrell, where donations at the door, a silent auction, and a portion of the food and drink sales will go directly to Candanoza's family. According to CBS News Texas, this event is organized by the Brotherhood of the Fallen Dallas.
Yesterday, his body lay in state at Max Slayton Funeral Home in Terrell, allowing members of the public to pay their respects until 8 p.m. Candanoza, killed by 25-year-old Darrian Johnson of Mississippi, had just begun his career with the Terrell Police Department in July. This tragedy occurred shortly before what would have been his 29th birthday on Saturday.
CBS News Texas will provide a live stream of the funeral service for those unable to attend in person.
