These areas, stretching from Andrews to Zavala County, remain under the shadow of imminent wildfire threats. As reported by the Governor's office and published on the official website, "elevated fire weather conditions persist in certain counties in Texas," a situation that has required consecutive renewals of the state's disaster response.
The proclamation invokes Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, which provides the Governor with the authority to declare such a state of disaster. This move is critical to mobilizing state resources and facilitating the response from various governmental subdivisions. To bolster these efforts, Abbott has authorized the suspension of certain state statutes and administrative rules that may impede rapid and efficient emergency action.
