Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed five members to the State Independent Living Council. The new appointees are Pipa McCollister, Seth Wells, and Cindy Burkett, along with the reappointments of Michael Garrett and David Lunt. They will serve terms that will end on October 24, 2027, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Pipa McCollister from Cleburne has worked as an administrative assistant at The Self Determination Group. She has a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University. Seth Wells from Beaumont is the executive director of the RISE Center for Independent Living and is working on a Master of Public Administration at Lamar University, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
The council will be strengthened by the experience of Cindy Burkett, a former State Representative with a background in political science and local business. Michael Garrett, a retiree from Missouri City, brings financial expertise and a commitment to advocating for the blind. David Lunt, a senior manager at Fidelity Investments, combines corporate experience with a focus on disability advocacy. Their combined knowledge will help the council support Texans with disabilities and work on the state plan for Independent Living, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
