In a somber update from Ozaukee County, authorities have reported a serious head-on collision involving two vehicles that left three individuals severely injured Friday evening. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office stated that the accident occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m. on Sunset Rd., just east of Northwoods Rd. in the Town of Port Washington, according to CBS58.
The office informed that a 17-year-old male, whose identity remains undisclosed, veered his 2011 Honda CR-V into the opposite lane and directly collided with a 2018 Toyota Rav4 driven by 43-year-old Shawn Greenly. The severity of the crash resulted in the 17-year-old and Mr. Greenly requiring transport via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital — the former for severe injuries, and the latter for injuries characterized as life-threatening. Stephanie Sternig, Greenly's 32-year-old passenger, also sustained severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, as outlined by TMJ4.
According to an investigation by the sheriff's office, speed and a failure to remain within the designated lane are considered to be contributing factors to this tragic event. Details on the conditions of Greenly and the young driver have not been released since their admittance to the hospital, with further updates anticipated as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, Sternig's condition remains serious as confirmed by local authorities.
All involved were residents of Port Washington. The sheriff's office is still piecing together the moments that led up to the incident. An official statement from the sheriff's office, obtained by WISN, highlighted that "speed seems to be a factor." As the sheriff's office delves deeper into the inquiry, community members are reminded of the ever-present dangers of roadway speeds, and the importance of adherence to traffic laws designed to protect us all.
