A two-year-old boy in Grass Valley has survived a suspected fentanyl overdose. The incident, which occurred at a private residence on Tuesday, was reported by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page, prompting a quick response from local deputies and medics. The child is now receiving medical care.

A child was found unresponsive and not breathing at a residence on the 12000 block of Rough and Ready Highway. Nevada County Consolidated Fire Engine #59 and Sierra Nevada Ambulance Medic #6 responded quickly, administering multiple doses of Narcan, an opioid antidote, which revived the child. The child was initially taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later transferred for further care. While at the scene, deputies and detectives found narcotics and drug paraphernalia near the child, some scattered on the floor, according to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

Taylor Anthony McGrath-Hiles, 33, was arrested after a toddler in his care was found in unsafe conditions. He faces charges of child endangerment and drug possession. During a search of his home, more drugs and drug paraphernalia, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, were found. McGrath-Hiles is in jail with a $150,000 bail. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation and urges the public to report any concerns about child abuse.
