Earlier today, an accident has claimed the life of a 67-year-old tractor-trailer driver from Oglethorpe, Georgia. The crash occurred on the eastbound exit ramp of Interstate 10 as the road curves toward northbound Interstate 75 in Columbia County. The vehicle, according to News4JAX, overturned and came to rest on its roof around 4:10 a.m.
As reported by First Coast News, no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has not yet released information on what may have caused to directly precede the crash. The resulting closure of the exit ramp affected traffic flow into the morning hours, however, specifics regarding the duration of the closure were not immediately clear.
The aftermath of the accident forced authorities to block off the area, disrupting the customary pulse of dawn traffic and leaving commuters to seek alternative routes. The FHP, upon investigating the scene, confirmed that the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. This detail was noted in a news release obtained by Action News Jax, which also asserted the solo nature of the wreck.
