A devastating collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of River Road and Beacon Drive tragically claimed a life and sent four others to the hospital on December 7. According to a report by the City of Eugene, Central Lane, 911 received a distress call at 3:57 p.m., alerting authorities about the serious incident.
The crash site was chaotic when first responders arrived, with a Toyota Corolla, carrying five teens, and a Chevy Suburban, driven by a sole occupant, significantly damaged. In an effort to quickly, but thoroughly, investigate the accident, Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded. The driver of the Suburban cooperated with the authorities at the scene, as indicated in the initial alert from the city.
Traffic was heavily disrupted, with both northbound and southbound lanes of River Road near Beacon Drive closed to vehicles. Commuters were advised to seek alternate routes as EPD Major Collision Investigations took charge of piecing together the sequence of events that led to the mishap. The names of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the demise of the deceased person have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
At this time, no charges have been filed. However, investigation into what might have caused the collision is ongoing.
