Arlington's cityscape is set to evolve with the initiation of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive construction project, slated to commence in January 2025. To improve regional mobility and neighborhood connectivity, the project aims to extend the current road network from East Bardin Road to Ingleside Drive, eventually linking to Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard. Financing for this undertaking comes from various sources, including street and water bond funds, the Tarrant County 2021 Transportation Bond and a North Central Texas Council of Governments grant facilitated through the Surface Transportation Block Grant, according to the City of Arlington's official website.
Enhancements outlined for this construction project, with a completion target of October 2025, are multifaceted. In addition to the road extension and relevant connection to Embercrest Drive, the project encompasses necessary water and sanitary renewals and improvements upon storm drainage systems. Matching the practical with the aesthetic, the blueprint also calls for installing shared-use paths, sidewalks, streetlights, and irrigation alongside traffic signal enhancements, particularly at the East Bardin Road and West Embercrest Drive intersection.
The Public Works Department will hold a public meeting on Monday, Dec. 16, at the Arlington Public Library – Southeast Branch to discuss the Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive project. The 6 to 7 p.m. meeting will include a brief presentation and a Q&A session to address community questions and concerns.
