Fort Collins Police have announced the arrest of two juveniles in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in late October. A woman was reportedly shot while confronting two males suspected of attempting to break into her vehicle. Following an investigation by the Fort Collins Police Criminal Impact Unit Detectives, which began on October 21, two teenage males have been taken into custody.
As reported by the City of Fort Collins, the first suspect faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and first-degree assault. While breaking into her vehicle, the victim was shot in the leg upon confrontation. In reaction to the arrests, Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky said, "It is certainly troubling to see youth involved in these types of crimes, but I’m grateful for the dedicated work of the Criminal Impact Unit to conduct this investigation and identify these suspects. Working to apprehend armed suspects is one of the top priorities of the Criminal Impact Unit, and their work makes our community safer."
The second juvenile suspect arrested has been charged with a string of felonies, among which is aggravated robbery with a gun. Once alerted by a family member about the intrusion, the victim approached the suspects outside her residence on Crown Ridge Ln and was subsequently shot. The suspects attempted to flee on foot before police arrival. The victim required immediate medical assistance and was later treated at a hospital from where she was released.
Fort Collins Police are still taking measures to ensure community safety and bring to justice those responsible for the recent violence. "This type of violence will not be tolerated in our community and our detectives are committed to identifying and apprehending the suspects," said Lt. Adam Ruehlen, as per the City of Fort Collins. The department is urging anyone with information or surveillance that might assist in the ongoing investigation to step forward. Individuals with relevant data or those wishing to report anonymously are directed to contact Larimer County Crime Stoppers.
