In a recent development within the Union Square burglary spree, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has announced charging two suspects, Denayaha Duree, 23, and Xavier Garcia, 20. According to a press release by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, both pleaded not guilty and faced multiple charges, including second-degree commercial burglary and grand theft, following an organized raid on the Dior store at 185 Post Street. "I would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department for their thorough investigation in this case," Jenkins stated, committing to consequences and accountability for those involved.
Amid the early hours of October 11, a calculated attack on the luxury retailer saw vehicles ramming the store's entrance and a masked and gloved group of ten making off with over $290,000 worth of goods in less than a minute, an incident causing significant property damage, and which the court considers public safety, and both suspects' bail status for their detainment. Both individuals were reportedly on bail for separate incidents when this crime occurred, and now the court has set no bail, considering other pending matters before the San Francisco Superior Court and another county.
The San Francisco Police Department, upon observing the flight of three vehicles from the scene, initiated a chase that was soon abandoned for safety reasons. This chase led them back to the crime scene, as reported by Hoodline. Discoveries at the crime scene tied two of these vehicles to the forced entry. Denayaha Duree was detained in connection with another burglary before being charged for the Union Square incident; SFPD credits detailed investigative efforts for her arrest.
While significant progress has been made in the case of these charges, authorities continue to classify the investigation as active, urging individuals with information to reach out to the SFPD Tip Line or to text TIP411 with the prefix "SFPD". Denayaha Duree and Xavier Garcia's preliminary hearing is set for December 24 as the case unfolds.
