U.S. Border Patrol agents made an unusual interception on a Californian highway last week, apprehending a fake delivery van carrying nine undocumented individuals. According to a statement obtained by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, the incident occurred last Tuesday when agents spotted the suspicious vehicle on Tierra Del Sol Road near Highway 94 in the San Diego area.
Unlike the typical delivery van, this vehicle bore inconsistent logos and unusual window coverings, triggering a vehicle stop by the agents. Upon approach, agents discovered nine individuals packed together on the floor and seats in the back of the van. An investigation revealed that none had the documents required to legally reside in the U.S. The driver, a U.S. citizen, was arrested along with the passengers and is currently being held pending federal prosecution while the imitation van was seized.
Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel commented on the case, emphasizing vigilance against criminal activities near border areas. "This is a stark reminder of the great lengths smuggling organizations will take to conduct their illicit activity," said McGurk-Daniel via the news release. She highlighted the commitment of the San Diego Sector Border Patrol to detecting and disrupting illegal enterprises in the region.
To strengthen their efforts, they encourage public reporting of suspicious activities to the U.S. Border Patrol's San Diego Sector by calling (619) 498-9900.
