The University of Hawaii has extended head football coach Timmy Chang's contract through the 2026 season. This decision came after Chang led the team to a 38-30 win over New Mexico, which marked a positive conclusion to the season. His contract was originally set to expire at the end of 2025. The extension was confirmed by sources like Hawaii News Now.
Acting UH Athletics Director Lois Manin, who officially assumed the role on the same day, led the effort to extend Coach Chang's contract. In a statement, Manin emphasized the importance of the program's growth and recruitment, calling it, "Offering him the opportunity to continue to build and recruit to the Braddahhood is paramount for the program," and added, "We are excited for the future of Warrior football, especially after what we witnessed Saturday night," as stated by Hawaii athletics.
Timmy Chang, head coach of the University of Hawaii football team for three years, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to continue coaching. He said, "I want to thank the University of Hawaii, President Lassner, the Board of Regents, and acting Athletics Director Lois Manin for the opportunity to continue coaching my beloved alma mater." Despite a 13-25 record and no bowl games, Chang is hopeful for the future, saying, "The time is now for Hawaii Football! We believe we have the staff, players, and the support from this community to get this team to where we all want it to be, back on top, winning football games, and continuing to make this state proud." The university extended his contract, though the terms were not shared, as mentioned by Hawaii News Now.
