Single-lane closures are kicking off at Dublin Boulevard and Marksheffel Road, with crews getting down to the business of removing those center median islands. This isn't just busy work, it's a step in the larger Marksheffel Road Improvements project, which is moving earnestly into its next phase.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, these closures are scheduled to run from 7 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Friday. And while all your turns will still be on the table, the lane closures during peak hours could mean your morning coffee gets cold during the drive. The City suggests considering alternate routes to save yourself the headache. If you think that's a one-off inconvenience, think again. Come Dec. 15, similar traffic interruptions will hit Marksheffel Road right at Dublin Boulevard.
Looking further ahead, those driving rituals on Marksheffel Road between Barnes Road and Dublin Boulevard might have to adapt yet again. Major construction is slated to begin in early 2025 and keep the area under its spell until late 2026. That's the second act of this transportation upgrade saga. And while Phase 1, stretching from North Carefree Circle to Barnes Road, is mostly a wrap - save for some top layer asphalt work and final lane striping, it's clear that this infrastructural dance is far from its finale.
