A fatal shooting at a USPS Processing Facility in Missouri City, Texas, has left an employee dead and another charged with murder. Derrick Lott, 24, identified as the shooter, is now in custody following the incident that occurred Monday night, according to multiple reports.
Responding to reports of an active shooter around 9:45 p.m. at the postal facility situated at 611 Highway 90 Alt, both Missouri City police and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service quickly arrived on the scene. Derrick Lott is accused of fatally shooting Kevin J. Hines, 35, who died at the location. ABC13 reported that Lott was arrested soon after and is currently held at the Fort Bend County Jail.
"This was a tragic and senseless act of violence," said U.S. Postal Inspection Service Acting Inspector in Charge, Mona Hernandez. "Our employees deserve to feel safe when they come to work." Officials have expressed their commitment to providing support for all employees affected by this event. The facility, which prohibits firearms or weapons on the property, has since resumed its operations.
