On Tuesday morning, a Vallejo neighborhood was disrupted by gunfire, leading to a tense standoff and eventual arrest. According to a social media post by the Vallejo Police Department, officers were called to the 200 block of Viewmont Avenue after reports of gunshots were heard. They arrived to find a woman and her adult daughter who had fled their house, reporting that Garry Harrison Jr, the woman's son, had taken out a firearm unprovokedly.
Efforts to convince Harrison to leave the home were initially unsuccessful. The Vallejo Police's Emergency Services Unit teamed up with neighboring police departments, establishing a cordon around the residence. As the standoff extended into the night, Fairfield's Drone Team and Vacaville's Drone and SWAT Teams provided additional support.
The situation came to a resolution after extensive negotiation attempts by the Hostage Negotiation Team and the utilization of less-lethal tactics by SWAT members. Vallejo Police informed that at around 3:30 A.M. yesterday, Harrison ultimately surrendered after chemical agents were deployed.
Vallejo PD's Detective Division is now investigating the incident thoroughly. In their statement, the department disclosed, "Based on victim statements and evidence recovered at the scene, Harrison was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Solano County Jail." A firearm was seized from the home and secured as part of the investigative process.
