A fatal car crash claimed the life of a 67-year-old Vermilion woman and injured two others yesterday evening. The collision, which occurred in Berlin Township, Erie County, involved two vehicles at the intersection of US 6 and SR 61 around 6:20 p.m. Cleveland19 reported that the woman, identified as Alethea Green, was a passenger in a Dodge Journey that a Chevrolet Suburban hit.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the Suburban, a 33-year-old woman from Vermilion, failed to yield properly while turning left onto SR 61. This led to her vehicle striking the Dodge Journey driven by 70-year-old Terry Green, with Alethea Green as a passenger, who tragically succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash.

Terry Green was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center with incapacitating injuries. Meanwhile, the Suburban's driver, whose name has yet to be released, was taken to Fisher Titus Medical Center, as stated in a press release obtained by FOX8. Details regarding the severity of her injuries were not provided at the time of writing.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. They have not released information on whether those involved were wearing seat belts. Charges have not been filed as of now. The death of Alethea Green and the two other injuries only add to the long list of vehicular tragedies that question, yet again, our collective road safety measures and the individual responsibilities held by each driver to ensure that they do not recklessly endanger lives.
