The Wake County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating after two separate incidents of gunfire targeting moving vehicles were reported on Monday night. According to a Spectrum News article, the first event occurred around 8:45 p.m. near Wendell Falls Parkway and Eagle Rock Road. A mere 30 minutes later, a second driver experienced a similar attack while navigating Interstate 540 near Buffaloe Road, as stated by the same report.
Residents expressed their alarm, fearing the possibility of potentially becoming victims themselves. "Especially because this is a family neighborhood. It’s very scary for everybody in here," Mariella Delouise told WRAL News, highlighting the distress within the community. The same sentiment was earlier echoed by Julee Combs to CBS 17, when she discovered the proximity of the incident to her home, stating, “That’s frightening. It’s right in our backyard. My daughter sleeps right up there.”
The two shooting locations are situated approximately 12 miles apart, a detail both the authorities and the citizens have noted. Yet, the Wake County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed if the shootings are connected or unrelated coincidences. Notably, this cadena of events strikes a disconcerting parallel to a recent series of shootings that occurred last month along I-40 in Raleigh. "Apparently other people have gotten the same bad idea. It’s pretty frightening,” Steen Jensen, a resident, remarked in a discussion with WRAL News.
While law enforcement agencies press forwards in their pursuit to uncover and apprehend those responsible, they continue to ask for the public's assistance. Anyone with information regarding these criminal acts is strongly encouraged to come forward and contact the Wake County Sheriff's Office at 919-856-6911.
