San Diegans, get ready for a dose of warm winter sunshine. NWS San Diego reports that the area west of the mountains will experience a warming trend, with temperatures running above normal for this time of year. Coastal dwellers can expect highs ranging from 63 to 70 degrees today, which will climb to a toasty 68 to 76 degrees by Friday.
The warming doesn't stop inland, with the western valleys and inland Orange County anticipated to hit 69 to 74 degrees today and an even warmer 76 to 80 degrees on Friday. The inland valleys are not far behind, with temperatures hitting a high of 71 to 77 degrees today and scaling up to 73 to 80 degrees as we head into the weekend.
According to the Area Forecast Discussion by the San Diego Weather Forecast Office, we’re in for "fair weather," which will bring warmer days and continue the trend of cool nights. Despite the emerging low clouds and fog near the coast, the offshore flow will bolster the warm temperatures as it strengthens today and through the weekend.
As per the National Weather Service, "Northeast winds could get strong, especially in the foothills, late Monday through Tuesday," and combined with low inland humidity, the region could see increased fire growth potential during this period. The prevailing offshore flow in the coming week is expected to maintain higher temperatures, though low temps inland could get chilly where the wind calms. They range from the low desert's 77 to 81 degrees to the mountains' cooler 55 to 65 degrees between 4000 ft and 7000 ft.
Due to patchy fog, visibility on the waters might be reduced tonight into Friday morning; however, no hazardous marine weather conditions are expected through Monday. As for the sky, it'll mostly be a clear VFR scenario for the mountains and deserts, with gentle breezes accompanying the sunny backdrop. While the Skywarn activation isn't on the table yet, spotters remain ready to report any significant changes in weather conditions.
