Memphis has been gripped by a string of violent events, starting with an attempted robbery that escalated into a shooting in East Memphis. According to the Memphis Police Department est.1827, two teenagers robbed a man and a woman at gunpoint on the 1400 block of Getwell Road. A video captured the male victim in a tussle with one of the suspects before a gunshot rang out. "I was locking up here and the guy said, ‘Give me the money.’ I don’t have that much money, so I said, ‘Okay. Here you go,'" the male victim recounted to WREG. Although shots were fired, both victims survived the encounter.
The suspects, who were last seen fleeing in a stolen white Toyota 4Runner, eluded capture despite a widespread search by authorities. This vehicle had been stolen earlier that day and was, eventually recovered. Merely hours after the first incident, the same suspects allegedly perpetrated another armed robbery, this time in the 1600 block of Getwell Road. Memphis Police have harnessed social media in a bid to gather information, urging anyone with details to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
Violence continued to surge with another shooting, this time in the neighborhood of Hickory Hill, where two men were shot, one fatally. The witness, who caught sight of the incident, shared with FOX13, "I heard gunshots, and I looked out the window and I just saw when the two dudes dropped and hit the ground." At least 20 gunshots were reported to have been fired, based on her account. The ensuing investigation created a heavy police presence in the neighborhood, unsettling residents and visitors alike.
The Memphis Police Department has been diligently working on these cases, canvassing neighborhoods and gathering evidence. "I have a son, so I be worried for when he gets older. Stuff like this, it happens, and I just worry that something might happen to him," Tacora, a local resident, told FOX13.
