The West Palm Beach Police Department spread holiday cheer with a warm-hearted initiative on Christmas Day, delivering meals to homebound seniors and families across the region. Supported by THE FUND for West Palm Beach Police and instrumental community members, police officers and volunteers brought festive meals to those in need, as reported by CBS12.
Among those volunteering their time was Jack Wooten from the Communication's Administrative Supervisor, as well as Thomas Strauser of ONW, and the Buxton family. The initiative also saw participation from the Palm Beach County State Attorney-elect Alexcia Cox and the Officer Nelson Caceres, known for his viral marathon running, who together helped carry out the meal deliveries.
According to WPTV, this year, 150 hot meals were distributed on Christmas morning by the officers, some elected officials, and community volunteers who had gathered at Heart and Soul Park. The recipients were selected by social service providers, and some were familiar faces to the patrolling officers who recognized their plight.
Outreach Officer Seth Buxton conveyed the significance of the gesture to WPTV, saying, "Some of these people, this is one of their only hot meals. Some are unsheltered, unhoused. Some have no means to cook. Some are just single, older, widowed, you know, individuals that have no one to look after them during the holidays or, matter of fact, any time of the year. So it's nice that we could come and at least give them a hot meal, smiling face, a big hug." The success and impact of last year's meal delivery inspired the department to continue the tradition, with plans already in place for the next holiday season.
