As the winter solstice approaches, Westwood Hills Nature Center is set to become a beacon of light in more ways than one. On December 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the nature center invites the community to participate in the Be the Light Winter Solstice Walk.
In what promises to be a poignant evening, participants will follow a luminary walk through the forest, the path alight with candles and punctuated by visual messages from the community. Attendees are encouraged to make luminaries with personal messages to then take home.
The event holds a special significance, as it is a time to light a candle in honor or in memory of someone who is or was battling mental health challenges.
According to the Westwood Hills Nature Center, participants will also have the opportunity to gather around a fire, experiencing the warmth and glow of community spirit in the chill of winter. Holding onto the theme of warmth in cold times, it is a free event but registration is required and must be done promptly, as spaces are anticipated to quickly fill up.
For those interested in joining the Be the Light Winter Solstice Walk, more information and registration details can be found on the Westwood Hills Nature Center website.
