
To bridge language barriers and foster community relationships, the White Settlement Police Department recently announced the continuation of its first-ever Spanish-Speaking Citizens Police Academy Class, with the social media announcement revealing that they have just completed their second week. According to a post from the White Settlement Police Department, the class is still open for new participants and will continue with six more sessions, each Thursday at 6 p.m.
The initiative, set to culminate in a graduation ceremony tentatively scheduled for February 1, 2025, is part of a broader movement within law enforcement agencies to engage with diverse communities in more inclusive ways, classes are led by officers and personnel from within the department who speak Spanish, including Corporal Laura Gonzalez, Detective Geovanny Ramirez, and WEST COMM 911 Dispatcher Adrianne Stewart, this class aims to provide Spanish-speaking residents a deeper insight into local law enforcement processes and to enhance mutual understanding.
Located at 8900 Clifford Street, the White Settlement Police Department is actively inviting members of the local Spanish-speaking community to take part in this academy; the curriculum is designed to cover a wide range of topics that include but are not limited to the structure and responsibilities of the police department, crime scene investigation techniques, and the daily challenges law enforcement personnel face.
