Williamson County recently received a $20,000 check from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) through the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants program. The funds are designated for identifying priority sites for redevelopment, according to Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation announcement.
A brownfield is a property that is vacant or underused due to potential contamination, such as old industrial sites. The BRAG program, created by the Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, aims to reduce public health and environmental risks while promoting economic investment in these areas. Williamson County plans to use the BRAG grant to identify priority properties for redevelopment.
In July, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation announced 36 brownfield redevelopment grants across Tennessee, helping communities transform underutilized properties into potential areas for growth.
This redevelopment can bring new businesses, create jobs, and boost the local economy. It also addresses environmental concerns by dealing with contamination in the soil or water.
