Wilson County Announces Tax Listing Period for 2025: Key Dates and Guidelines for Property OwnersSource: Google Street View

According to a notice from the Wilson County Tax Administrator, tax listing for 2025 will begin on January 2 and end on January 31. Property owners are required to list possessions such as mobile homes, boats, jet skis, and business assets from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays.

For those who own unlicensed vehicles or farm equipment, it's time to get your paperwork in order. The listings should include detailed information like make, model, body style, and vehicle identification number (VIN). "Without the VIN, we cannot accurately value the vehicle," the tax office stresses. It's important to note that office closures include January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, as reported by the Wilson County Tax Administrator.

Wilson County has had a change of address, with the office now located at 2816 Ward Blvd, Wilson, NC, on Monday. Taxpayers requiring assistance can visit this new location, and for those who prefer the digital route, there's good news. An online extension request and listing for both individuals and business personal property is available, and the deadline for online submissions has been set for April 15.

Missing the January 31 listing deadline comes with a cost - a penalty set at 10 percent of the tax levied. For residents aged 65 and over or those living with a permanent disability, there may be some relief available. The tax office urges eligible residents to "contact the office to see if they qualify for the Homestead Exclusion or Homestead Circuit Breaker  Deferment Exclusion, and request an application." Additionally, honorably discharged veterans with a service-connected permanent and total disability are invited to contact the office for an application to receive the Disabled Veterans Homestead Exclusion, according to Wilson County Tax Administrator.

For any questions or clarifications, the Wilson County Tax Administrator can be reached at (252) 399-2900. All the information about tax listings, deadlines, and penalties, as well as the available tax relief programs, can be found on the Wilson County website. As tax season approaches, residents are encouraged to be proactive to ensure all required property is properly listed and taxes are accurately assessed.
