An 11-year-old girl is currently hospitalized with serious injuries following a traffic incident in Brooksville, where she was struck by a car shortly after being dropped off by a school bus. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred around 3:39 p.m. yesterday on Eskimo Curlew Road, a location notably lacking paved sidewalks for pedestrians.
The young girl was walking along the edge of this unpaved and unmarked road, traveling northbound when a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 65-year-old Brooksville woman, collided with her. The details of the collision, provided by WTSP, indicate that the child suffered serious injuries from the impact.
Following the incident, emergency services transported the girl to a nearby hospital. However, the extent of her injuries and her current condition remain unclear. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the accident and the nature of the injuries in a statement obtained by FOX 13 News.
"This is a developing story," reports ABC Action News, reminding readers and residents alike of the ongoing need to address pedestrian safety, especially for the most vulnerable amongst us, our children. Updates will be provided as further information is made available by law enforcement and medical personnel attending to the child.
