
Tragedy struck Driftwood this past Tuesday when a juvenile girl was fatally shot by a 14-year-old boy, law enforcement officials say. The Hays County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of suspicious circumstances at a residence on Canna Lily Circle, as detailed in a statement obtained by KXAN. On arrival, deputies found the girl had already sustained a gunshot wound inflicted by the boy. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both of the involved parties were residents of the home where the incident took place. Subsequently, the boy was apprehended and transported to the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center. "The Hays County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family affected by this heartbreaking tragedy," HCSO stated in their press release, while extending thanks to the first responders who attended the scene, as reported by KXAN.
Further inquiries made on Wednesday revealed that the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the victim, confirming the death as a homicide. With investigations still in progress, HCSO has made an appeal to the public.
