An 18-year-old suspect in the shooting of an off-duty ATF agent outside a Riverview bowling alley was denied bond. Christopher Smith, the accused shooter of ATF agent Matthew Murray, will remain incarcerated as the case proceeds, according to a WFLA report.

During the bond hearing, witnesses including the victim's wife, Courtney Murray, detailed the events leading to the shooting. Courtney recounted to the courtroom that their family outing quickly escalated into a menacing confrontation, stating, "It was automatically people trying to start a fight and my husband trying to deescalate it right from the start," as reported by FOX 13. The group, as described by Murray, seemed intent on initiating a conflict, with the agent stepping in to intervene.

The accused, Smith, was arrested several hours after the incident at a nearby residence, and he now faces charges including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Despite Smith's arrest, authorities have not recovered the gun used in the shooting. The Sun Coast PBA has set up a fund to support the injured agent and his family during his recovery.

Additional testimony from Courtney Murray, provided to Tampa Bay Times, described the shooting as her husband stood outside the Alley at Southshore. The agent, who was off-duty at the time, identified himself as a law enforcement officer to the group involved in the altercation and instructed them to disperse. However, the incident nonetheless escalated further, leading to the agent being shot in the neck, leaving him critically injured and paralyzed.

The legal path forward for Smith also remains to be seen as the investigation moves forward and the judicial process takes its course.
