An Orange County community is grappling with tragedy after a 6-year-old boy was struck and fatally injured by an alleged DUI driver while riding his bicycle. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred yesterday around 4:43 p.m. at White Cloud Avenue and W. Tahoe Street. ClickOrlando detailed the harrowing incident, stating that a Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Francisco Rosillo Arriola, 53, of Apopka, failed to heed a stop sign, ultimately leading to the tragic impact.
According to the same report, a witness confirmed that Arriola's vehicle did not stop at the sign, which directly resulted in the collision. The young boy, whose identity has not been released publicly, was quickly transported to AdventHealth Apopka but, despite best medical efforts, was pronounced dead. Arriola, who was unharmed in the incident, was arrested. He has been booked into Orange County jail, facing a slew of serious charges, including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Meanwhile, FOX 35 Orlando reported that this is not Arriola's first brush with driving under the influence, noting that this incident represents his third DUI violation. Additionally, he is charged with not having a driver's license, causing death.
