The crime occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on January 12 at a Phillips 66 gas station on the 3700 block of Union, as first reported by the St. Louis Police Department's news release.

The victim, a 60-year-old man, was attempting to fill his car when an unexpected confrontation took place. He turned to find an unknown male in the passenger seat of his car, wielding a handgun. "At that point, the 60-year-old said another male suspect armed with a handgun appeared and pointed it at the 60-year-old while demanding his car," the news release detailed. The perpetrators – two in number, then fled the scene in the victim's 2024 Lexus NX 350, accompanied by the white SUV they arrived in.
