
A tragic incident unfolded last night in Seminole County when a 74-year-old Winter Springs man was killed following a traffic collision. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Red Bug Lake Road, near the intersection with State Road 417. According to ClickOrlando, the man was driving a Chevy Equinox and ran a red light, leading to a collision with an Acura MDX driven by a 19-year-old Oviedo woman.
The crash unfolded as the Chevy was heading west on Red Bug Lake Road, crashing into the Acura MDX after the latter vehicle had exited the SR-417 ramp, said a witness to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Acura was attempting a left turn onto the road. Subsequently, the Chevy driver was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 19-year-old driver of the Acura sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital, as WFTV reported.
Both drivers were taken to Oviedo Medical Center following the crash. The older man's identity has not been disclosed, while the young woman's condition is said to be non-life-threatening. She is expected to recover from her injuries. The exact circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
