An 87-year-old Hernando man's life came to a tragic end after a medical emergency led to a fiery crash in Citrus County, as reported by multiple outlets. WFLA stated that the incident occurred when the man, sitting at a stop sign on West Grover Cleveland Boulevard, suffered a medical emergency, causing his foot to slip off the brake pedal at approximately 2:38 p.m. yesterday.
His vehicle, a Kia Forte, proceeded to travel west across the highway and collided with a sign, during which time it's said that the accelerator was depressed, prompting the car's tires to spin against the sign troopers recounted the vehicle's spun wheels on the grass ignited a fire that quickly spread to the car itself. This sequence of events ultimately led to the entrapment of the elderly driver, as noted in a report by WTSP, which also mentioned responders' efforts to rescue him.
The driver was subsequently removed from the burning vehicle by Citrus County deputies and firefighters, and he was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, as per information from FOX 13 News. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed there were no other individuals involved in the crash, ensuring that no further harm was endured by innocents in an already sorrowful event.
