Akron's cityscape is set to witness new leadership dynamics as Mayor Shammas Malik announces major appointments within his Cabinet. To strengthen the community-focused initiatives and human resource services, Deputy Director of Service Eufrancia Lash is stepping up as the new Director of Neighborhood Assistance, and Lashawrida Fellows is the Deputy Director of Human Resources. This move is designed to enhance both departments' operational efficacy and provide improved services to Akron's neighborhoods and its municipal workforce.
"As Director of Neighborhood Assistance, he will be more acutely focused on certain areas of our work including Housing and Community Services, Housing Compliance, Nuisance Compliance, vacant buildings, and our 311 services," Mayor Malik was quoted in a statement obtained by the City of Akron. The mayor expressed excitement in welcoming Fellows to the team, emphasizing her impressive background and the potential to contribute significantly to employee relations and various other HR facets.
Director Lash, an Akron native, has a rich history of public service and engagement in community affairs. He has been a vital part of Mayor Malik's cabinet since joining in 2019, and his experience ranges from his time at Ford Motor Company to community-level endeavors like the Ohio and Erie Canal Community Concert Series. Lash's ties to the region and his dedication to its upliftment are evident from his involvement with several local boards and charities.
Fellows, meanwhile, brings over 16 years of human resource experience into her new role. She critically comes from the County of Summit, where she managed diverse responsibilities as the Deputy Director of Human Resources. Her rich history in nonprofit management and board involvement, such as her service on the Black Giving Collective and Habitat for Humanity boards, speaks to her commitment to community engagement—a trait Akron's leadership values highly. Lashawrida Fellows told the City of Akron about her rich history of work and volunteering in Akron, a testament to her deep roots in the community she is set to serve.
This reorganization underlines the city's resolve to address neighborhood issues and enhance human resources capabilities, impacting Akron's future landscape. By placing individuals with a steadfast commitment to the town at the helm, Mayor Malik envisions a more responsive, service-oriented government that aligns with the needs and aspirations of its citizens. As these appointments unfold, Akron awaits the results of this new chapter in community and employee-focused leadership.
