The Akron Police Department is currently on the lookout for a suspect involved in the recent robbery of a U.S. Postal worker in the city. According to a FOX8 report, the theft occurred around 4 p.m. Monday within the 900 block of Bisson Street. The suspect, whom the postal worker believed to be armed, reportedly kept his hand in his coat pocket during the incident and claimed he was carrying a gun.
Little was provided regarding specifics of the taken items, with the police choosing to keep details about the stolen property under wraps. The suspect managed to leave the scene, quickly running away toward Diagonal Road. Efforts to identify the perpetrator are hampered due to an unclear photo released by police, a snapshot believed to be from a surveillance camera nearby. The photo features an individual police consider to possibly be the suspect, although the image lacks clarity to make certain identification, as WKYC detailed in their coverage.
The suspect's description, as provided by police, depicts a young individual, estimated to be between 16 and 20 years old, with a height ranging from 5'4" to 6' and a weight between 120-150 pounds. During the robbery, he was dressed in a black coat, dark-colored pants, a ski mask, and what seemed to be red gloves. The Akron Police Department, through a statement obtained by Cleveland19, indicates that during the robbery, the suspect's face was fully covered, further complicating his identification.
Authorities are contacting the public to gather more information that could lead to the suspect's arrest. They encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip. An anonymous tip option also exists, allowing informants to contact Summit County Crimestoppers or text TIPSCO with tips to 274637.
