Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, became the center of disturbing news this week following the arrest of a local man accused of strangling a 1-year-old girl. According to WPXI, authorities were alerted to an incident at the Eleanor Roosevelt Apartments yesterday, where multiple witnesses have reported seeing Darryl Watkins, 60, engaging in a violent act against the child.
As detailed by the CBS News Pittsburgh report, officers responding to the domestic disturbance call were met by a woman who claimed that Watkins assaulted her granddaughter. Adding to the severity of the allegations, Watkins not only resisted arrest but also caused damage to police property, creating an altercation with officers that left a wall in the police station with a hole and a computer damaged.
Watkins, following the altercation, is now facing a slew of charges. The accusations include strangulation, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, institutional vandalism, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and harassment.
The child involved, while experiencing such a distressing ordeal, had visible marks that corroborated the witnesses' statements, according to officials. Watkins remains confined at the Beaver County Jail as the legal gears grind slowly forward, thick with the grim residue of this heinous act.
