The Allegheny County Jail (ACJ) has reached a significant milestone in healthcare quality by securing accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). This formal recognition is a testament to ACJ's adherence to the highest standards of healthcare practices within a correctional environment, signaling a step forward in the humane treatment and well-being of its inmate population.
"I'm very proud to work with such a talented group of professionals who worked so hard to make this happen," Deputy Warden of Healthcare Services Holly Martin said in a statement detailed by the Allegheny County press release. This achievement was made possible through the collective efforts of the healthcare team and everyone involved in the jail's daily operations.
October 2024 marked the jail's rigorous evaluation. A team of qualified professionals conducted a comprehensive survey of the facility, covering various parameters, including patient care, staff training, safety protocols, disease prevention, service access for inmates with special needs, and other criteria essential for accreditation.
NCCHC has been at the forefront for over four decades, developing standards in collaboration with experts from various fields, including healthcare, mental health, law, and corrections
