An Alliance man's post-argument boredom led him to perpetrate a beer theft, but a trail of snow tracks ensured a cold resolution to his criminal misadventure. As reported by Cleveland19, 24-year-old D’Joure Corvel Hawkins was linked to the early morning burglary of a home entertainment room on Buckeye Avenue last Friday, where he absconded with eight cans of Miller High Life beer.
In a statement obtained by Cleveland19, the Alliance Police Department said officers were able to track Hawkins's footprints in the snow to an apartment on Klinger Avenue, aligning with the shoe size of the suspect and the snowy impressions. Hawkins initially denied his involvement, but evidence such as wet footprints in his kitchen and his damp socks found in the apartment quickly unraveled his claims. According to the same source, Hawkins was taken to the police department, where he confessed to his actions.
Following the arrest, Alliance Police Captain James Hilles discussed the conditions of the capture with FOX8 News, stating that "If it would have been summer we wouldn’t have caught him so it definitely worked out best for us." The snow, a usual impediment for first responders, became an unexpected ally, leading the police directly to the culprit after a 30-minute pursuit across the community's snow-covered terrain.
An intertwining of luck and nature facilitated a swift justice that might have otherwise eluded the grasp of local enforcement—if not for the incriminating path laid bare by a blanket of snow. The Alliance Police acknowledged the snow's role in the capture on their Facebook page, remarking in a statement obtained by WHIO, "The only time we appreciate the snow!" The officers' diligence and the climatic conditions conspired to ensure that Hawkins's tracks led him away from the crime scene and directly into custody.
Upon recovery, the stolen items were confirmed to be in Hawkins's possession, according to the Alliance Police Department. Echoing sentiments of misdemeanors born from ennui, Hawkins told officers he committed the theft because he was bored following a dispute with his girlfriend, a fact highlighted in reports from all attending outlets. The items, alongside footage of the arrest, were subsequently shared by the Alliance Police on social media. Hawkins now faces burglary charges for his snow-traced escapade on that frigid January morning.
