As the cold snap hits, the City of Arlington has triggered its Emergency Weather Shelter Plan to provide refuge for homeless individuals from today through next Wednesday. The trigger point for this action: a forecasted temperature dip to 39 degrees or below for at least four straight hours overnight. This initiative is a lifeline for those without a roof over their heads during this harsh winter period.
The Arlington Life Shelter and The Salvation Army are opening their doors as part of the emergency response. The Arlington Life Shelter, situated at 325 W. Division St., will begin intake at 2 p.m., with the process wrapping up by 5 p.m. Guests are advised to use the east side entrance, and while IDs are normally required, exceptions are made for police drop-offs. Among the essentials being provided, meals will be served to all guests seeking shelter from the biting cold. Anyone looking for further information can dial 817-548-9885 ext. 3312, according to an announcement made by the City of Arlington.
Similarly, The Salvation Army at 712 W. Abram St. will open its doors for intake starting from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. While identification is required here as well, exceptions will be made for individuals brought in by the Arlington Police Department after regular hours. Like the Arlington Life Shelter, they too will provide meals to those taking refuge. For queries, the public can reach out to The Salvation Army at 817-860-1836.
