In response to the chilly forecast in Arlington, the city has lengthened the duration of its Emergency Weather Shelter program. According to the City of Arlington, the Arlington Life Shelter and The Salvation Army have been designated as inclement weather refuges for individuals experiencing homelessness. This activation caters to individuals on nights when temperatures dip to 39 degrees or colder for four hours.
The Arlington Life Shelter, located at 325 W. Division St., opens its doors for intake from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and guests are advised to use the entrance on the building’s east side. Identification is requested, though exceptions are made for those brought in by the police. The facility also offers meals, and you can contact us at 817-548-9885 ext. 3312 for more information. Similarly, The Salvation Army at 712 W. Abram St. begins intake at 7 p.m. and continues until 10 p.m., with ID requirements following the same protocol as the Life Shelter. As a part of the contingency measures, all Arlington Library locations will remain open for warming during their standard operating hours. The George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, at 100 S. Center St., is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Other branches at New York Ave., Green Oaks Blvd., Brown Blvd., and other specified locations maintain hours from Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (applicable only to East Library and Recreation Center).
Arlington Animal Services Shelter offers shelter for homeless individuals with pets at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd as capacity permits. Those in need can call 817-459-5898 for assistance.
