The holiday spirit was strongly felt in St. Bernard Parish as Associated Terminals, the key operator of the Port of St. Bernard's marine facilities, continued a tradition begun in 2003 by donating bicycles to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office. These bicycles were distributed to local children for Christmas, bringing not just gifts but hope to families in need, according to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.
According to a report obtained by the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office, the bikes were delivered in December and became part of the treasure trove that COPS For Christmas aim to deliver annually. The efforts of Associated Terminals and its employees gracefully underscore a corporate passsion to give back, solidifying a bond within the community they operate. Sheriff James Pohlmann praised the tradition for helping to "supports families in need by providing toys, food, clothing, Christmas trees, and other essentials."
As the leading midstream stevedoring company on the Mississippi River, Associated Terminals plays a significant role in the local economy with operations in multiple parish locations, including Chalmette Slip, Plaquemines Parish, and Reserve. It is their employees who fund the bicycle project, a testament to their commitment to the broader welfare of the community, as reported by the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.
Those present for the handover of bicycles included notable members from both organizations: Chaplain Dep. Aaron Johnson, Associated Terminals Operations Managers Forrest Russell and Jason Perez, Sheriff James Pohlmann, Maj. Angela Huff, Sgt. Shannon Cooper, Capt. Lacye Lulei, and Associated Terminals Creative Director Art Yves, as per the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office. The faces behind the project stand together as an emblem of the shared efforts to bring merriment to families during the holidays. This annual giving has clearly become a cherished part of the Parish's festivities.
