As the new year ushers in, Atlanta residents are bracing for an assortment of weather conditions. The forecasts, sourced from the National Weather Service, indicate that while today bares sun and clear skies, the city should anticipate a notable dip in temperature come nighttime. Today's pleasant high near 50 is accompanied by widespread frost before 10am, set to clear and give way to Northwest winds around 5 mph.
Tonight, the city will see partly cloudy skies and is expected to experience a low around 33 with calm winds. The trend of chilly nights is projected to continue with Friday night's mercury plummeting to around 27, despite a sunny day that should only slightly to warm up to a high near 51. The winds aren't letting up either, with forecasts of Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph, gusts reaching up to 25 mph expected to cut through the city.
For those yearning for more consistent sunshine, the weekend outlook seems favorable, albeit with cooler conditions. Saturday promises sunshine with high temperatures hovering near 43 degrees, while Northwest winds at about 10 mph, with potential gusts up to 15 mph, are likely to persistently chill to the air. The clear skies on Saturday night will, however, also equate to another cold night, with lows around 28 degrees, as detailed by NWS.
Looking toward the end of the weekend, a shift in the weather pattern will bring clouds and a 50 percent chance of showers on Sunday. This increases to a 90 percent chance by Sunday night, as told by the National Weather Service, possibly setting the stage for a wet start to the following week with showers expected. Monday will potentially also see some showers, with a 20 percent chance before 1 pm and a high near 50. That night, the temperatures are likely to once again plummet to 27 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.
The rapid transitions continue with a return to sunshine on Tuesday and Wednesday, but residents will be facing significantly cooler days, with highs near 41 and 39, respectively.
