The ATLDOT and OCA are setting up a ribbon-cutting ceremony to toast the new Midtown Bike Lane Barrier Mural Project. According to an announcement from the ATLDOT, the event is scheduled for tomorrow, at 9:30 a.m., with media folks asked to show up by 9:00 a.m. The celebration is taking place at the Park Tavern Piedmont Room, located at 500 10th Street NE in Atlanta, and RSVPs from the media are encouraged via [email protected].
This latest infrastructure venture isn't just about safer lanes for bikers; it's paired with a splash of culture too. Spanning 10th Street NE from Piedmont Avenue NE to Monroe Drive NE the project adds 300 low-profile concrete bike lane barriers. Posted at Piedmont Park's edge, the barriers have received an artistic touch, incorporating locally inspired murals to create not just a biking but a visual experience. As a part of the city's Vision Zero strategy, which aims to null out traffic fatalities and severe injuries, the project serves a crucial role in protecting cyclists and those zipping around on various micro-mobility devices.
The Midtown Bike Lane Barrier Mural Project acts as a physical and cultural upgrade to the first cycle track of Atlanta, installed back in 2013. "This event will highlight how the project not only enhances safety for cyclists but also features vibrant public art that enriches Atlanta’s cityscape," detailed the Atlanta Department of Transportation in their announcement.
