Baltimore's culinary scene is set to expand with a new addition from Atlas Restaurant Group, which has released details about its upcoming Japanese izakaya and handroll restaurant named Kannon. Expected to open in Spring 2025, Kannon will take residence in the vibrant Harbor East/Fells Point area. According to a statement detailed by WMAR-2 News, the establishment aims to deliver "a moderately-priced, neighborhood-driven, izakaya experience" and will be a concept led by Chef Timur Fazilov. Fazilov, known for his culinary influence at locations like Azumi in Baltimore and Houston, is expected to bring forward a bold menu that includes handrolls, sashimi, nigiri, and crudo.
Envisioned as a space that captures the essence of Tokyo's energetic dining culture, Kannon promises to offer a feast for the palate and the eyes. The design, credited to Patrick Sutton, will incorporate elements of a Tokyo underground vibe, complete with exposed wooden beams and industrial accents. FOX Baltimore reported that the restaurant will feature a beverage program to complement the menu, including cocktails, Japanese sake, and beers.
Alex Smith, the President of Atlas Restaurant Group, shared his connection to the project, stating, "Kannon is a project close to my heart, inspired by my travels to Japan, Los Angeles, and New York." He added that the new restaurant celebrates Japanese cuisine crafted for a casual and lively atmosphere. Smith said, per WMAR-2 News, "I am excited to add Kannon to our city’s growing culinary landscape."
The grand opening is anticipated, and further updates will be shared as the launch date approaches in Spring 2025.
