Applicants eager to make a tangible difference in the Auburn-Opelika area should mark their calendars—the deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on February 10, with the Auburn City Council scheduled to appoint new members at its February 18 meeting. Serving a four-year term, the committee's 15 members (five appointed by the Auburn City Council) do more than just occupy seats; they meet as needed at the Lee Russel Council of Governments and must reside within the jurisdiction they represent. According to an announcement published on January 24th on the city's Open Line portal, "The Metropolitan Planning Organization Citizens Advisory Committee reviews local transportation plans and changes in public transit and may provide ideas and suggestions for consideration by the Metropolitan Planning Organization Board and Technical Advisory Committee."
