The Edge at Lowry, a contentious apartment complex in Aurora, has been slated for emergency closure due to a ruling citing the property as a severe public safety concern. According to KDVR, last Thursday, the City of Aurora took legal measures against the apartment owners, Five Dallas Partners, LLC., leading to a judge's endorsement of the emergency order on January 10th. The situation escalated following an unsettling incident where two individuals were abducted last month, as reported by 9News.
With sixty apartments affected, Aurora's crisis necessitates immediate action. A spokesperson for the city ensured that partnerships are underway with Arapahoe County and community allies to secure relocation support for the dislodged tenants. This decision comes against a backdrop of violent criminal escapades as the local police have logged numerous calls for service at the complex, covering a range of offenses from assault to trespassing, outraging many, including city officials and residents alike. V Reeves, an organizer with Housekeys Action Network Denver (HAND) said, as per 9News, "I’m receiving so many calls every single day from the families living in these buildings. They are so desperate to be out. They are so desperate to be somewhere safe."
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain laid out a stark picture in the petition for emergency closure, calling the apartment complex an "epicenter for unmitigated violent crimes and property crimes perpetuated by a criminal element." Chamberlain's grim depiction signals the urgent need to halt the complex's operations to safeguard its inhabitants, according to The Denver Post. The city and property owners are set to confer in court Monday afternoon to discuss forthcoming proceedings in the criminal nuisance case at hand.
