Last week, the Aurora Police Department Gang Intervention Unit made two key arrests during a narcotics operation. The unit apprehended 28-year-old Abel Gebretsadik and 31-year-old Majid Ahmed, according to the department's Public Information Officer Joe Moylan, as per the City of Aurora, on January 3rd.
Gebretsadik, with an active felony warrant for fentanyl distribution, was located at a local mall. Despite his history of evading law enforcement, Aurora police officers were able to arrest him in the mall parking lot, along with Ahmed, who was detained on a misdemeanor theft warrant. The operations did not just result in arrests, the officers also confiscated over an ounce of crack cocaine, prepared in multiple baggies ostensibly for sale, and $7,000 in cash, as reported by the City of Aurora.
Furthering the department's haul was the seizure of a 3D-printed gun, believed to be functional and capable of firing .22-caliber ammunition. The inclusion of such a weapon in the seizure suggests an unsettling trend in the accessibility and potential circulation of untraceable firearms, complicating the task of law enforcement agencies nationwide. The dangers these weapons pose are amplified by their ability to bypass traditional control measures and metal detectors.
While Ahmed faces consequences linked to his outstanding warrant, Gebretsadik has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of obstructing a peace officer. As the investigation continues, the Aurora Police Department encourages anyone with information to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). With the promise of anonymity, tipsters could also be eligible for a reward, of up to $2,000.
