
The Barbara Jordan Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has announced the addition of three new concessions, enhancing the airport's cultural and culinary offerings. Among these new experiences are Half Moon Empanadas, Antone's, and HKG Duty Free. Each brand brings a distinct element to the airport, reflecting Austin's diverse heritage and vibrant local scene.
In a statement made by the CEO of Half Moon Empanadas, Pilar Guzmán, the arrival of the Miami-based minority-owned eatery at AUS signifies an important expansion, "Landing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is a significant milestone for Half Moon Empanadas," she said. according to the announcement by the City of Austin. Serving a variety of handcrafted empanadas, the establishment looks to make this Latin American staple an iconic American food. Situated on the non-secure side, it is the first new sit-down concession for hot food since the pandemic, with its grand opening having taken place on January 29.
The esteemed blues club, Antone's, also unveiled its airport location, coinciding with the musical institution's 50th year in operation. Will Bridges, co-owner of Antone's, told the City of Austin that having an Antone's in the airport was long a dream, "We are thrilled to finally have an Antone's location in the airport. It has been a dream of ours for many years, and we’re so appreciative that Delaware North shared our vision and helped make this project possible." Reflecting the storied history of the iconic venue, the airport location is adorned with vintage show posters, historical artifacts, and a signature neon sign, all nod to the musicians who have performed at the original venue on East 5th Street since 1975.
Furthermore, HKG Duty Free has brought its shopping experience to AUS travelers. Led by President Ross Khaledi, the Texas-born company has expanded its footprint to become a player in the travel retail space. "We are excited to partner with Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and to bring our unique retail expertise to this dynamic and vibrant city," Khaledi said, aiming to offer both a local and international shopping experience. HKG Duty Free's official opening date is yet to be announced, but it signals a new era for airport shopping at AUS.
Rounding out the new additions, Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of AUS, expressed enthusiasm for the new concessions. "These new additions embody the vibrant culture, rich flavors, and iconic experiences that make Austin a one-of-a-kind destination," Badawi stated, as she looked forward to the influx of travelers and outlined the ease of locating these new offerings using the AUS Interactive Map. The continued expansion process at AUS set to launch more experiences including the West Gate expansion in 2026, aims to further redefine the travel experience through the airport.
