Austin Fire Department Quells Early Morning Blaze at Abandoned Bank on N. Lamar Blvd

The Austin Fire Department was called upon early Sunday morning to address a blaze at an abandoned bank located at 9800 N. Lamar Blvd., near the crossroads of West Rundberg Lane. The white edifice, long forgotten, consigned to the periphery of civic concern, became the sudden focus as smoke billowed forth, visible from the adjacent thoroughfare. As reported by KVUE, fire crews were dispatched to the scene around 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke.

The fire department was compelled to immediately go into defensive operations, fighting to contain the flames that raged throughout the building's lightweight construction and attic space. With such intensity, the fire commanded the undivided attention of the department, necessitating the use of a drone equipped with thermal imaging to better assess and strategically counter the blaze, as "scene pictures of AFD Finest putting in some great work to try and stop the fire" were shared by the fire information team via X.

Thankfully, despite the ferocity with which the fire consumed the abandoned structure, there were no injuries reported amongst civilians or firefighters. According to CBS Austin, the Austin Fire Department successfully contained the fire, following up with a thorough interior inspection to extinguish any remaining hot spots and ensure the scene was secure.

AFD has recommended that the public keep to steer clear from the area as investigation into the cause of the inferno remains ongoing. It took roughly three hours for the teams, their skill and determination on full display, to bring the situation firmly under control. Crews stayed on scene until the mid-afternoon, ensuring that the fire was conclusively extinguished and no further flare-ups would occur, as per information from KVUE.
