In the early hours of Thursday morning, firefighters in northwest Austin were called to a residential fire, where they executed a heartwarming rescue of ten puppies and their mother, as reported by CBS Austin. The incident occurred in the 10800 block of Thicket Trail, where crews encountered black smoke and flames emanating from a garage. The Austin Fire Department (AFD) succeeded in containing the fire primarily to this area, therefore preventing more significant damage to the house.
Despite the dangerous conditions, all of the dogs were found to be unharmed the Austin Fire Department confirmed, the fire itself was sparked by space heaters placed too close to combustible materials. Responding firefighters checked for any remaining hot spots meticulously to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished once the initial flames had been put out. KVUE reports that nine puppies were retrieved from the blaze, with one unfortunately not surviving.
AFD Battalion Chief Quentin Prior told KVUE, "They went in and found the puppies, brought them out, nine out of 10 survived," with emergency medical services assisting by providing the puppies with oxygen through specialized masks designed for canines. The AFD ensured that all human inhabitants escaped the premises safely, and as a precautionary measure, the electricity and gas to the house were temporarily shut off.
