The quiet of a Battle Creek neighborhood was shattered Wednesday afternoon when a home on East Goguac Street became the target of a drive-by shooting. The incident, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m., resulted in bullets striking the occupied residence, and several vehicles, however, no injuries were reported, as reported by FOX17.
According to the Battle Creek Police Department (BCPD), the investigation into the shooting is active with authorities currently searching for a number of persons of interest, as noted in a public alert on the City of Battle Creek website. Sources close to the investigation confirm, that at least one individual was inside the home when gunfire erupted, taking shelter within the walls that, by mere chance, did not become a backdrop for tragedy on that day.
Details of the incident remain sparse, as officials work to untangle the threads that led to the public flash of violence. Police have not yet made any arrests, and are calling on community members to come forward with any information that could aid in the apprehension of those responsible.
In a bid to involve the community in the search for justice and to perhaps prevent further violence, the BCPD urges anyone with knowledge of the incident to reach out. Information can be shared with BCPD at 269-966-3322 or 269-781-0911; alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
