San Diego can anticipate a shift in weather as January ends and February begins. According to the National Weather Service San Diego, isolated showers in the region are expected to cease this morning, paving the way for a warming trend that should continue through the weekend.

For coastal dwellers, there’s no significant change on the horizon, with temperatures for today predicted to linger between 58 and 62 degrees; inland temps, however, are slated to rise a few degrees. Inland valleys should see temperatures ranging from 54 to 61 degrees, while those in mountainous areas between 4000 feet and 7000 feet can expect cooler temperatures around 40 to 49 degrees. The warming trend is set to peak on Sunday and Monday, with mountain areas seeing temperatures a sizzling 12 to 18 degrees above average.

The NWS forecast discussion indicates that this warming will lead into early next week before a Pacific low-pressure system potentially ushers in cooler weather and a chance of showers mid-week. Despite the impending alteration in weather patterns, the marine forecast suggests smooth sailing for those heading out to sea, with no hazardous conditions expected through Sunday.

The warming trend will be most pronounced for those at higher elevations. "With the warming, high temperatures for the mountains will be as much as 12 to 18 degrees above average for Sunday and Monday with high temperatures for the valleys mostly in the 70s and for the lower deserts in the upper 70s to mid 80s," reads a statement from the NWS San Diego forecast discussion. Meanwhile, aviators should note that SCT-BKN lower clouds between 3000-4000 feet MSL could affect visibility from the coast to the mountains, though widespread disruptions aren't forecasted.
